Chinese Government Supports Kyrgyzstan In Finding Historic Materials On Ancient Roots of the Kyrgyz

Kyrgyz government officials believe that the first evidence of the existence of an ancient Kyrgyz statehood was written by the ancient Chinese historian, Ssuma Jian. This year will be marked in the country as the 2200th anniversary of the Kyrgyz statehood. Yesterday, President Askar Akayev told the participants at the closing ceremony of the 2002 Global Year of the Mountain that the current Chinese government will help to Kyrgyzstanis in fact-findings. Peking will finance a special scholarly group to investigate the historical materials, including the old chronicles in Chinese, to enrich the materials on the ancient roots of the Kyrgyz, said Akayev. Last December the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the Jubilee of the Ancient Kyrgyz statehood.
Some local scholars have reservations on the date, but they support Government funding of the scientific research on the ancient and medieval history that was neglected during the Soviet regime.
